Kovalam, 10 km from the capital city Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) comprises of three small crescent beaches adjacent to each other, namely, the Lighthouse Beach, Hawa Beach and Samudra Beach. The Lighthouse Beach, the southern most beach is the place where most of the visitors spend their time. Overlooking the rocky headland is the Hawa Beach. It is the middle beach and a base for local fishers each morning. The Samudra Beach is the last beach, is least affected by the changing times. A few simple wooden fishing vessels line the beach.
Beach Activities There is no dearth of beach activities at Kovalam Beach. Water sports at Kovalam beach include swimming, catamaran ride, kayaking, parasailing, surfing and windsurfing. If you are interested in just relaxing, you can enjoy the sunbathe on the golden sands of the beaches and get a lovely tan. An Ayurvedic massage will help take away all your stresses and tensions. The seaside stalls sell souvenirs and trinkets. There are several seaside restaurants and stalls preparing fresh and delicious seafood all along the edge of Kovalam Beach.
